Paddy landed cost calculator

You agree a rate, but you do not pay that rate. Market fee, commission, loading, freight, broker and shrinkage all sit on top. This adds them up so you compare mandi paddy and farm-gate paddy on the same footing.

The calculator

Pre-filled with the 2026-27 paddy MSP (₹2,441 a quintal for common grade) and typical mandi charges. Charges differ by state and by market, so replace them with the figures on your own bills. Chips switch between a mandi purchase, a direct farm purchase and a wet lot.

How landed cost is built

Landed cost per qtl = rate + market fee + commission + hamali + freight + broker

Cost after shortage = landed cost ÷ (1 − shortage %)

Cost at 17% moisture = cost after shortage ÷ [(100 − moisture) ÷ 83]

The last line matters when you buy wet. A lot at 21% moisture is carrying water you will dry out before milling, so the paddy you can actually mill costs more per quintal than the paddy you were invoiced for.

Why compare on landed cost

A farm-gate rate that looks ₹30 cheaper than the mandi can be dearer once freight and a broker are added, and a mandi rate that looks dear can be cheaper once there is no hamali and the lot arrives dry. Landed cost is the only fair comparison, and it is the figure the next calculators in this set — cost of a quintal of rice, and break-even — should start from.

MillSaathi keeps the charges against each purchase, so landed cost per supplier and per lot is a report rather than a guess.

Common questions

What is landed cost of paddy?+

It is what a quintal of paddy costs once it is inside your mill gate: the agreed rate plus market fee, commission, loading and hamali, freight and broker, and corrected for any weighment shortage. It is higher than the sauda rate and is the number to use when comparing sellers.

What mandi fee and commission should I enter?+

Whatever your own bills show. They vary by state and market, and in some places part of the charge falls on the seller. The pre-filled figures are only typical starting points.

What is the MSP for paddy in 2026-27?+

The Union Cabinet announced ₹2,441 per quintal for common paddy and ₹2,461 for Grade A for the 2026-27 kharif marketing season, an increase of ₹72 over the previous year. The calculator pre-fills the common-grade figure.

Why divide by moisture?+

Because you pay for the weight on the scale but you mill the weight after the water is gone. Expressing cost at the standard 17% moisture lets wet and dry lots be compared fairly.

Will the core features always be free?+

Core features will always be free. Core mill workflows will not be moved behind a paid plan. Optional future extras and the separate mill website service may be paid.
